The Guthrie Theatre offers Open Captioned Theatrical Performances of "Macbeth" and "Brief Encounter" This Month!
Hello Live Theater fans!
The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, MN is offering an Open Captioned Theatrical Performance for each of its plays: Macbeth (Sat. 3/27) and Brief Encounter (Sun 3/28)
Macbeth
Wurtele Thrust Stage
Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 7:30 pm
In this tale of treachery and ambition, a brave soldier and nobleman, Macbeth, encounters three weïrd sisters who prophesy his path to greatness. When their predictions begin to come true, Macbeth and his ambitious wife decide to do whatever is necessary to ensure their rise to power. They first hatch a plot to kill the king and take his place, and though all goes according to plan, they soon realize a single murder isn’t enough to maintain the throne. Obsession and paranoia get the best of them, driving the couple down a path of destruction on a quest for glory, even as the kingdom crumbles between their bloody fingers. Macbeth, Shakespeare’s shortest and darkest tragedy, performed here with no intermission, moves with the rapid pace of the murder thriller it is, exposing the politics of power and the corruption it breeds. This production contains graphic violence.
Run Time: 2 hours 5 minutes with no intermission
Brief Encounter
McGuire Proscenium Stage
Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 7 pm
In this must-see limited engagement direct from sold-out performances in London, San Francisco and New York, England's acclaimed Kneehigh Theatre transforms Noël Coward's iconic love story into a jaw-dropping fusion of theater, film and song. Forbidden passion brews in a 1938 railway station tearoom as a suburban housewife, over a series of stolen afternoons, falls madly in love with a married doctor. This groundbreaking theatrical event - ingeniously crafted with whimsical humor, dreamy romance and stunning multimedia effects - was hailed as "a first-class return to romance" (Daily Telegraph) and The New York Times said "Don't be ashamed if you, too, feel a bit like swooning." The San Francisco Chronicle raved "Every so often a theater piece comes to town that is so brilliantly conceived and executed, so entertaining on every level, that you want everyone you love or even like just a bit to see it. Brief Encounter is that kind of experience." Don't miss this runaway hit as it makes its final stop on an exclusive three-city U.S. tour! This production contains smoking.
Run Time: 95 minutes with no intermission
