DeafHope is an organization based out of San Francisco, CA, that is dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence against Deaf women and children through empowerment, education, and services.
They were recently picked from a pool of over 500,000 501(c)(3) non profit charities in the nation to be one of the 100 finalists in the Chase Community Giving program. By being chosen as a finalist, they were awarded $25,000 and made eligible to receive $1 million from Chase in a community vote that ends on 11:59PM EST on January 22nd.
Being from Seattle, Washington, also the home of Abused Deaf Women's Advocacy Services (ADWAS), the founders of Captionfish are well aware of the severity of domestic violence against Deaf women and how the safety and well-being of victims of domestic violence are compromised.
We feel that it is critical that all women and children have a healthy environment in which to live. Without this, they often fall victim to oppression and violence. Instead of being in a position of empowerment, they are controlled against their will.
What better place for them to be than one in which everyone around them can provide the support they need and deserve, in their primary language? All people have the right to a life free from fear. Please help protect that right for deaf women and children through DeafHope.
At time of writing, DeafHope is sandwiched in the middle of the list. With your help and support, we believe we can create a flurry of votes that will propel them to the top.
If you're on Facebook, go to DeafHope's Voting page and vote. It won't take you more than a minute. Pass this on to your family and friends who are on Facebook and encourage them to vote for this great cause.
