Captionfish Supports DeafHope

DeafHope is an organization based out of San Francisco, CA, that is dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence against Deaf women and children through empowerment, education, and services.

They were recently picked from a pool of over 500,000 501(c)(3) non profit charities in the nation to be one of the 100 finalists in the Chase Community Giving program. By being chosen as a finalist, they were awarded $25,000 and made eligible to receive $1 million from Chase in a community vote that ends on 11:59PM EST on January 22nd.

Being from Seattle, Washington, also the home of Abused Deaf Women's Advocacy Services (ADWAS), the founders of Captionfish are well aware of the severity of domestic violence against Deaf women and how the
safety and well-being of victims of domestic violence are compromised.

We feel that it is critical that all women and children have a healthy environment in which to live. Without this, they often fall victim to oppression and violence. Instead of being in a position of empowerment, they are controlled against their will.

What better place for them to be than one in which everyone around them can provide the support they need and deserve, in their primary language?
All people have the right to a life free from fear. Please help protect that right for deaf women and children through DeafHope.

At time of writing, DeafHope is sandwiched in the middle of the list. With your help and support, we believe we can create a flurry of votes that will propel them to the top.

If you're on Facebook, go to DeafHope's Voting page and vote. It won't take you more than a minute. Pass this on to your family and friends who are on Facebook and encourage them to vote for this great cause.

New Captionfish Feature! Upcoming Captioned Releases

Captionfish has introduced a new feature page that shows upcoming movies! We believe that data transparency helps us all make more informed decisions about the choices of movies we want to see.

Due to this belief and some recent feedback requests, we've implemented an Upcoming Captioned Releases feature page that allows everyone to see which movies are coming out in the future and answer the bigger question of "is this movie going to be captioned or not?"

This page will be updated periodically and new movies added to this list as soon as more information is made available for Captionfish to detect their availability.

If the movie on this page's list has a trailer, a "T" mark will be placed next to the title. We've also linked each movie title to that movie's page so you can learn more about the movie itself by viewing the description, poster, and trailer (where applicable.)

Once you've checked out the movie, if it interests you, click the email notification on the right sidebar to ask Captionfish to notify you when movie showtimes appear in your area! Please follow the instructions to confirm the notification.

We hope seeing this new feature helps you look forward to many more movies in the future!

Captionfish now includes Foreign/Subtitled films!

To kick off 2010, we've rolled out the first phase of our foreign/subtitled movies feature. We're now pulling in showtimes for foreign movies showing in the major metropolitan cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C..

If there are foreign/subtitled movies available in your area, they will be listed on the, "Your Instant CC Film Finder" page annotated with a boxed icon with the letters ST in them and an indication of the origin language of the movie along with a mention that it's subtitled in English (e.g. Spanish with English subtitles).

Each movie also has its own movie page on which you can view subtitled trailers (in most cases). You can also access those movie pages from the "Foreign/Subtitled" tab on the Trailer Directory page.

To see an example of what we've added, take a look at the theater page for the Landmark Theater in Los Angeles, CA or the Opera Plaza Theater in San Francisco, CA.

Remember that this is only the first phase of our rollout. If you've submitted theaters to us (thank you!) and they aren't listed, don't worry, we know about them, and are working on getting them added. If you haven't told us about your favorite foreign film house, let us know about it so we can get it added!

As always, thank you for your support of Captionfish. We pride ourselves in being the source for captioned movie listings. We wouldn't be where we are today without all of you.
